Dawn Hayes

I grew up in a small town with parents who taught me the value of a dollar and what life is really all about. I try and portray that message in my photographs.

I am a self-taught photographer who has been studying photography for six years but started taking my passion more seriously four years ago, when I started attaching emotion to my works. In the process, I have won several awards for my photographs. I am currently enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography, and among the photography courses I have completed are Master Lighting in Photography, Find Your Passion in Photography, The Business Side of Photography, and Fine Arts Photography.

There are many beautiful attractions in this world that I try to capture on film. I enjoy creating photographs and taking them beyond the ordinary limits. I don’t really have a favorite subject to photograph. I enjoy nature, landscape, portraits, still life, and more. My passion for photography comes from my heart. Life is a photograph to me just waiting for the right moment to stop in time.

My three children, whom I greatly admire, inspire me to take photographs. For me, “If I follow my heart my dreams will find me.”

Hi, my name is Dawn Marie Hayes. I married my high school sweetheart, Matt, in 1996 and we now have three beautiful children together. After working as an accountant for years, I decided to start working on my dream as a photographer. In high school I attended all photography classed including two years of annual. I then enrolled at New York Institution of Photography.

Being a spiritual person I love photographing all of God's beauty. This might include a landscape that is breathtaking, a new born baby that has barely taken a breath or a couple at their wedding as they begin their new life together. I feel honored when families hire me to photograph them in photos that they will keep for lifelong.

How do you know you’re a photographer and not just someone who likes taking pictures, you might ask me? I would answer this question with one word - viewfinder. I see the world as if I were looking though a viewfinder at all times. I can see a photo before I take it. I see lighting on the television and find myself arranging the lighting on the set of the show I am watching. I dream in photographs! Thinking of poses, props, and people I would love to photograph! I believe when you see your world through a viewfinder, without the camera in your hand, you are a photographer.
